Grinding wheels, or grinding discs, are circular items made of abrasive grains and layers of fiberglass. Attached to grinding tools or machines, the abrasive grinding disc removes unwanted material from a workpiece. Industrial grinding wheels are available in several styles and types, and selecting the right wheel depends on the application and how quickly the job needs to be completed.
Grit size determines the amount of abrasion applied, and like sandpaper, grit ranges from coarse to fine. Wheel size — diameter and thickness — must be considered as well. The diameter is based on the tool to which the wheel is attached, while thickness of the wheel is related to its performance and longevity.
